How Monsanto Archived 660,000+ Materials from SAP (NTT DATA Customer Session)

Day/Time: Wednesday, March 28 | 2:55 PM – 3:40 PM

Due to the proliferation of material master data, Monsanto was unable to run SAP standard costing. Business processes were designed to create and extend materials for all possible scenarios and plant locations in SAP. This was driven by the growing cycle for seeds and changing market conditions, which made predicting demand challenging. Reducing the number of materials in SAP was driven by a global project to standardize costing.

Monsanto partnered with NTT DATA to implement a two-phase archiving approach. Phase One involved a detailed analysis of the data objects preventing archiving of materials and the implementation of corresponding archiving processes. Phase Two identified and archived material data created, but never used. This approach enabled the implementation of a global standard costing process, created a starting point for Monsanto to revise the material creation/extension process, and started the development of a material master lifecycle in SAP.
